We regularly represent clients with traumatic brain injuries. Traumatic brain injuries include concussions; a concussion is a form of traumatic brain injury. There is no such thing as a “mild” traumatic brain injury from the patient’s perspective, although doctors may label it as such to distinguish it from severe brain hemorrhage and the like. To sustain a traumatic brain injury and concussion, it is not necessary to actually strike one’s head. Motion of the brain in the head can injure the brain. Often, imaging scans (such as MRIs or CTs) are negative because the injury is now understood to happen at a cellular and nerve fiber level that current imaging technology cannot detect. Some patients may not recover for over a year and may have permanent disabilities.
